Actors - A. Whitney Brown

A. Whitney Brown (born Alan Whitney Brown on July 8, 1952, in Charlotte, Michigan), is a comedian probably best known for his recurring appearance on Saturday Night Live
in the 1980s as a joke news correspondent opposite Dennis Miller
who delivered humorous opinion pieces known as "The Big Picture". He currently works at Air America Radio.

More recently, he appeared on the The Daily Show during the Craig Kilborn era, again as a news correspondent. He has also worked as a writer for these comedy shows as well as Tales from the Crypt.

Brown began his career as a street juggler and musician before finding regular employment as a comedian and comedy writer.

In March 2004, he was fired from Air America Radio for insubordination (the network hadn't launched yet), but was re-hired months later.

Famous lines

  • "There are a billion people in China. It's not easy to be an individual in a crowd of more than a billion people. Think of it. More than a billion people. That means even if you're a one-in-a-million type of guy, there are still a thousand guys exactly like you." - from SNL (I give credit for this joke to George Meyer, former SNL writer and The Simpsons head writer. He said it to me in the halls at SNL one Wednesday AM, after pulling an all-night writing session, he looked a little down, and was self-deprecating over a sketch he had written that hadn't got on the show. I said, "But, George, you're a one in a million kind of guy!" He said, "Great, that means there's 4 thousand of me." George had a science background.(AWB))
  • According to the Washington Post, Dan Quayle thought Roe v. Wade were alternative ways to cross the Potomac.
  • "That is the saving grace of humor, if you fail no one is laughing at you."
  • "And that, my friends, is the big picture." - line Brown would end each of his "Big Picture" commentaries
  • "I'm not a vegetarian because I love animals; I am a vegetarian because I hate plants." - line from his book "The Big Picture"
  • "Our bombs are smarter than our high school students - at least they can find Kuwait on a world map." - from "The Big Picture"
  • "Hello, I'm A. Whitney Brown. Some day, I hope to be THE Whitney Brown" -- From The Daily Show
