Adele King (born 4 April 1951) is an Irish professional entertainer and variety artist, better known in Ireland as 'Twink' from her time as a member of a group called Maxi, Dick and Twink, which was a popular girl band in Ireland in the late 1960s.

Pantomime and theatre

Adele King has been entertaining people by singing, dancing and acting since the age of five. She was a Gaiety Kiddie and worked in pantomimes in the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin with Jimmy O'Dea, Milo O'Shea and Maureen Potter. She was also a Young Dublin Singer.

She has spent over 33 years in Dublin's theatres: 26 years in the Gaiety Theatre, two years in the Point Theatre and five years in the Olympia Theatre. At the Olympia she co-produced and wrote all of the shows. By the end of this period she could be considered Ireland's 'Panto Queen' and a major box office attraction.

Twink has had lead roles in many theatre productions in Ireland. These include:

Hunky Dory with Dory Previn for Noel Pearson,
the musical Can't Stop the Music
at the Gaiety Theatre,
the musical Annie
at the Olympia Theatre, in which she played the role of 'Miss Hannigan',
the play Extremities by William Mastrosimone at the Cork Opera House (a controversial play concerning the issue of rape), in which she played the role of 'Marjorie',
the episodic play The Vagina Monologues at the SFX City Theatre,
Sive by John B. Keane in its tour of Ireland, in which she played the part of 'Mena Glavin', and
The Snowman at The Helix, in which she was the narrator.

Television

Twink appears regularly on Irish television. She spent ten years on Play The Game, and has made many appearances as a guest on a wide range of programmes. These programmes include RTE's Late Late Show (the world's longest running chat show) and And Here Are Your Hosts. In December 2005, she was the subject of a tribute on the Late Late Show.

In 2003 she took part in RTE's Celebrity Farm, where she was the first celebrity to be voted off the farm on the second day.

She says that the highlight of her career to date was being chosen to be the special guest at the Point Theatre with Perry Como. Other highlights have included partying with Elvis and singing in Las Vegas.

Agony aunt

Twink has written an agony aunt page for over five years for the Irish magazine TV Now.

Theatre school

In the summer of 2002 Twink established a school for the performing arts, AKTS (the Adele King Theatre School). The school has locations in Castleknock and Greenhills, with two more schools in the planning. Pupils of the school have appeared in television programmes and soap operas, films and commercials in Ireland and overseas.

Other

As an Irish celebrity, Twink's private life has been lived in the public eye. Twink and David Agnew, an oboist with an international reputation, married in 1983. In 1990, their first daughter, Chloe Agnew, was born. Chloe appears to have inherited her parents' gift for music: in 2003 she released her first single This Holy Christmas Night and in 2004 she released her first album Chloe. In 1994, Twink's second daughter was born.

In October 2004, after 21 years, Twink and David Agnew's marriage was reported to be over.

In Ireland she is also well known for her love of animals and her many pets, which include many dogs, many cats, birds, and a donkey. Twink, her two daughters and her pets live in Knocklyon in a €1 million Georgian House.
