Actors - Alain-Philippe Malagnac d'Argens de Villele

Alain-Philippe Malagnac d'Argens de Villele (1952?–2000) was a French aristocrat primarily known for being the lover of French writer Roger Peyrefitte, with their relationship also being a subject in several of the latter's works. Malagnac was also an art collector and the husband of singer Amanda Lear.

Scion of a French family with aristocratic roots, the fourteen year old Alain-Philippe was noted his exceptional beauty and intelligence, which marked his entire life. He was chosen for a role in a cinematic rendition of Roger Peyrefitte's Les Amitiés particulières, shot in 1964 and the source of a literary scandal. He and the author met on the set, and were mutually drawn to each other. Their relationship grew, and is the subject of Peyrefitte's novel, Notre Amour (Éd. Flammarion, 1967). Peyrefitte, in a later interview, was to comment that Malagnac's mother, who was aware of their friendship but not necessarily its more intimate aspects, presented a copy of the novel to her son with the comment, "I have just read a very beautiful book." Their love was also the subject of another work by Peyrefitte, L'Enfant de cœur, "The Heart Child."

Upon reaching the age of sixteen and passing the baccalaureat exams, his parents gave him the choice of either entering university or accepting Peyrefitte's offer of a position as his personal secretary. He chose the latter and moved in with the author. They lived and traveled together, retracing the route taken by Alexander the Great, and he was eventually adopted by Peyrefitte.

As an adult he took on various occupations, among which proprietor of the first gay night clubs in Paris on the rue Ste. Anne, and manager of the French singer Sylvie Vartan. His various undertaking were financed by his adoptive father, whom, it is said he ends up bringing to the brink of bankruptcy, so that he (Peyrefitte) found it necessary to sell off his renowned collection of erotic antiquities, gathered over the course of his long life, in order to pay his beloved's debts, from 1978 to 1980.

In 1978 he met Amanda Lear at the "Le Palace," a private night club in Paris. She is a tall, handsome woman with a low voice, a woman thought by some to be transsexual, who had been Salvador Dalí's model and protegée in the nineteen sixties. In April of 1979, while on a trip to the United States, they marry. Their marriage lasted twenty one years. On Saturday, December 16th, 2000, he was killed by smoke in a fire at their recently-bought farm house in Saint-Etienne-du-Gres. Together with him died Didier Dieufils, a young man of twenty, known only as a breeder of cats. By rare coincidence, his death followed by only six weeks that of his mentor and former lover, Peyrefitte, who passed away on the 5th of November of the same year.
