| "All the Madmen" is a song written by David Bowie in 1971 for the album The Man Who Sold the World. It is one of Bowie's most disturbing songs, opening with acoustic guitar and a decant recorder, giving the song a childlike dementia, before turning into a full-blown glam rocker and ending in the surreal coda of "Zane zane zane, ouvre le chien". The song was released on single by Mercury Records in the U.S. in April 1971 after Bowie performed it on acoustic guitar during his U.S. promotional tour early in 1971. It was a promotional 45 rpm single with the same song on the B-side. In June 1973 RCA released the song as a single in Eastern Europe backed with "Soul Love".
