Alyssa Jayne Milano (born December 19, 1972 in Staten Island, New York) is an American actress. She's best known for her roles in the sitcom Who's the Boss? and the fantasy series Charmed.

Biography

Early life and career

Milano was born to Italian-American parents, Tom and Lin Milano, and she has a younger brother, Cory (born 1982), who is also an actor. She and Cory grew up on Staten Island. She began her career at the age of eight when she won a part in an open audition for a national tour of Annie. Having gained a reputation, she appeared in television commercials and off-Broadway productions. One of her first acting roles was at the age of 10 in the television program Who's the Boss? with Tony Danza, Judith Light, Danny Pintauro, and Katherine Helmond. She starred as Samantha Micelli, the daughter of Tony Danza's character, Tony Micelli. In order to appear in this show, her family relocated from Brooklyn to Hollywood.

Later career

For the majority of her career Milano was known for her role on Who's the Boss?, something which she tried to shed by appearing in many very adult film roles. Many of these included nudity or very graphic (simulated) sex scenes. Many actresses do not manage to escape the stigma of such a career turn, and the years following Who's the Boss? were rough for her, but Milano was able to return to stardom with her success on Melrose Place
and especially Charmed.

Music

Milano is also an accomplished singer and recording artist, though not in her home country of the United States. She has released 5 albums that have all reached sales of over 1 million copies in Japan. She even appeared in the blink-182 video for the song "Josie".

In 1989 her image was used for the character development of Ariel in the Disney movie, The Little Mermaid.

Personal life

Milano is an avid fan of tattoos and has several of them. She was briefly engaged to actor Scott Wolf in 1993. Later she was married to Remy Zero lead singer Cinjun Tate from January 1st until their divorce on November 20th, 1999. Milano also had a brief fling with pop music singer Justin Timberlake in 2002. At present, she is dating Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Brad Penny. Her height is 157 cm.
