August Diehl (born January 4, 1976, Berlin, Germany) is a German actor. His father is actor Hans Diehl, his mother is a costume designer. He has a brother. His family moved a lot while he was growing up. Diehl lived in Hamburg, Vienna, Düsseldorf and Paris. He graduated from school (Abitur) in Bavaria.

The first hints that Diehl was to become an actor surfaced while he was still a child. While he participated in Die Räuber as Franz Mohr in a school play, he made the decision to become an actor. He was 18 at the time. Diehl studied acting at the renowned Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch. While he was still a student there, he was already heavily engaged in stage work.

In 2000, Diehl was named as one of European film's "Shooting Stars" by the European Film Promotion. As of 2003, he lives in Berlin.
