| Basil Dignam was an English actor. He was born in Sheffield on 24 October, 1905 and died on 31 January 1979. A character actor, he played supporting roles in over 80 films between 1951 and 1975, often appearing as an authority figure, be it a police officer, an army general or a peer. Basil Dignam was married to actress Mona Washbourne. His brother Mark Dignam was also a professional actor.
