Crossroads is a 2002 movie directed by Tamra Davis. It stars pop singer Britney Spears in her first major movie role. In the film, Spears plays teenage Lucy, the lead character. A younger version of Lucy is played by Spears' sister, Jamie Lynn Spears.

Plot

In a little town in Georgia, three friends get together on the night of their high school graduation. One friend is "little miss perfect", one is an engaged prom queen, and the third is a pregnant outcast. One of the girls brings up the topic of going to Los Angeles for a record contract audition. They all decide to go together. With a little money, they set out on the road with a guy named Ben. When they reach LA, Lucy (Britney Spears) falls in love with Ben and against her father's wishes, she stays and goes to the audition.

Response

The movie was produced on a budget of US$12 million, and earned more than $37 million in the United States. However, it received near unanimous negative reviews, most panning Spears' acting ability. There were some positive responses to Spears acting sources such as E! said that she was more enjoyable to watch than fellow Pop-Stars-turned-actresses Mandy Moore and Mariah Carey. Nevertheless, it did receive two MTV Movie Award nominations.
