| David Bauer (March 6, 1917 – February 13, 1973) was an actor. Though born in the United States, he left the United States due to McCarthyism and settled in Britain, where he appeared in many of Lew Grade's ITC Entertainment productions, including The Baron, The Champions (where he provided opening narration for each episode), The Avengers, Department S, Gideon's Way, Jason King, The Prisoner, The Protectors, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), The Saint, and Strange Report. He also appeared in movies such as Patton, Inspector Clouseau, Diamonds Are Forever, You Only Live Twice, and The Spy Who Came In from the Cold (though in some of these movies, like You Only Live Twice and Spy, his part is minor or even uncredited.) Ironically (in light of why he left the United States for Britain) the episode of The Prisoner he appeared in, "Living In Harmony", where he played The Judge/Number Two, was banned in the series' original run on American television, supposedly due to drug use but more likely because of the political commentary on the Vietnam War that could be read into the episode.
