| David Ford (born October 30, 1929; died August 7, 1983) was a character actor known for playing John Hancock in the musical turned motion picture 1776. Besides 1776, he replaced, Mark Allen for the role of Sam Evans, who's a widower and an artist. Father of Maggie Evans (Kathryn Leigh Scott) on the ABC-TV serial Dark Shadows from 1966-1968. His other role on Dark Shadows was Audre duPres, the father of Josette duPres in the 1795 storyline. He was married to Nancy Barrett from 1966 until they divorced in 1968 that same year his character Sam Evans was killed off from Dark Shadows. Sadly on August 7, 1983 David Ford died of a heart attack in New York, New York he was 53 years old. On that same day two years later, his co-star Grayson Hall died from cancer.
