David Rees Snell, an actor who has appeared in such short films as P1 and Draw the Pirate. A friend of The Shield creator Shawn Ryan, Snell was cast as Detective Ronnie Gardocki, who was an extra at the time of the pilot episode of the Shield as a member of the anti-gang police task force called The Strike Team.

When the show was picked up by the FX Network, Snell was hired as a supporting cast member on the show, but was told upfront that the writers had no real plans for developing the character for the time being, due to him being a last minute addition to an already large cast of actors. However, his screen time has expanded of late, and as of the fifth season is a full-time cast member.
