Dileep or Dilip (born October 27, 1968 in Desom, Aluva, Ernakulam, Kerala, India), whose real name is Gopalakrishnan, is one of the most successful comedic actors in Malayalam films.

He started his career in a troupe called Kalabhavan, working as a mimicry artist and assistant director, and had small comedy roles in films. The film Sallapam was a turning point in his career, where he graduated to serious roles.

His comic timing and dialogue delivery in films like Punjabi House, Kalyana Sougandhikam, Ee Parakkum Thalika, etc., made him very popular among the Malayalee audience, and he rose to stardom with his later films like Joker, Meesha Madhavan, etc. However, the actor has yet to prove his ability to handle a wide spectrum of characters other than comedic ones.

Gopalankrishan was born and bought up in Aluva a town near Ernakulam. He studied in Vidyadhiraja Vidya Bhavan school (passed 10th Standard in 1985) and then in UC college (Pre-degree - 3rd group - 1997) and then Maharaja’s college.

Anil Mohan present day TV artist), Siju (Mimicry artist), Shibu (Drums Player), Madhu (Singer), Ajay Chandrashekar (Kathakali), Lakshmi (Singing) etc. Gopalankrishan was an average student. His sister Jayalakshmi also went to the same school VVBHS (1987 batch). During 1985-1987 he tried to perform as a mimicry artist in U.C. college but was not sucessfull and rarely won any accolades or merits.
