| Divya Bharti (born Divya Om Prakash Bharti), (25 February, 1974 - 5 April, 1993) was an Indian film actress in the early 1990s who worked with a range of big name actors including a pre-stardom Shahrukh Khan, Govinda, Sunny Deol, Sanjay Dutt and Jackie Shroff. In her short career she starred in 14 films. She made her debut at the age of 16 in a South Indian film called Bobbili Raja (1990) made by Gopal B. This movie was dubbed in Hindi as Rampur ka Raja. She made her Hindi film debut in the 1992 film Vishwatma at the age of 18. The film did not do well at the box office but showcased Divya's talents as an actress. 1992 saw more of her films being released including Dil Hi To Hai, Deewana, Shola Aur Shabnam, Dil Ashina Hai, Kshatriya, Jaan Se Pyaara, and Geet. Some of these films did well and some didn't but her fanbase grew and she was the reigning actress of 1992. She received the Filmfare Lux New Face Award. She secretly married Hindi film producer Sajid Nadiawala but kept the marriage a secret due to family problems. On April 5, 1993, she fell to her death off a 6-storey apartment building in Mumbai. The circumstances behind her death were considered suspicious by the media; however, despite an investigation, police found nothing. To this day her death remains a mystery. Some people believe she was pushed, others say she accidently fell off and some say she was drunk and this caused her to fall. About 500 people attended the funeral of the then youngest heroine of the silver screen, including Anil Kapoor, Amrish Puri, Raj Babbar, Yash Chopra, Jimmy Nirula, Sudhakar Bokade, Mukesh Duggal, Raza Murad, Vikas Anand, Ram Mohan, Javed Khan, Raj Kanwar, Nitin Manmohan and Pehlaj Nehlani, maker of her first hit, Shola aur Shabnam. A large number of film personalities, including Hema Malini, Karisma Kapoor, Sangeeta Bijlani, Chandni, Manisha Koirala and Asha Parekh, offered condolences to the bereaved family members at their residence. Her two final films Rang and Shatranj were released after her death and dedicated to her memory. Filmography
