| Duane L. Jones (February 2, 1936 – July 22, 1988) was an American actor, best known for his role in the 1968 horror film Night of the Living Dead. He studied acting in New York City. His role in Night of the Living Dead was the first occasion in which a black actor was cast in a non-ethnic lead role of a major motion picture, as well as the first black actor to have a starring role in a horror film. He spent his latter years as a drama professor at the State University of New York at Old Westbury. He died of cardiopulmonary arrest in 1988. FilmographyNight of the Living Dead (1968) ....
