Actors - Ella Margaret Gibson

Margaret Gibson alias Patricia Palmer aka Ella Margaret Arce, aka Ella Margaret Lewis, (September 14, 1894 - October 21, 1964) was an American actress, who landed ingénue leading roles in Vitagraph's westerns.

Career

Her career has been brimful of interesting events, and her record of artistic achievements is one which any actress could well envy. Among her most memorables roles were her leads in "The Riders of Petersham," "Back to Eden," and "The Outlaw," as well as innumerable others. Highly advertised in the mid 1910s, she was a troubled personality who had several run-ins with the law and was at one point even arrested on a Federal charge for being part of a nation-wide extortion ring, and for vagrancy, a situation that demanded the change of name.

Connection to the Murder of William Desmond Taylor

In 1999, an account, from apparently a credible source, was made public. On October 21, 1964, while living in a modest residence in the Hollywood hills, Gibson suffered a heart attack and, as a recently converted Roman Catholic, confessed to the February 1, 1922 murder of Hollywood mogul William Desmond Taylor on her deathbed.

Based on the circumstances of her reported confession, along with what is known about her life between 1914 and 1937, she may have murdered Taylor, and if so she accomplished (although it has to be taken into consideration the lack of modern law enforement investigative techniques) an essentially "perfect" crime: She is alleged to have been involved romantically with Taylor. However there is no documented motive and zero proof. Some investigators have noted that soon after the murder she got work, using the name Patricia Palmer, in a number of Paramount-Lasky films. The one thing that stands out, however, is that she had absolutely nothing to gain by the confession, which makes it even more believable.
