| Emil Botta was born in 1912 and died in 1977. He was highly admired as an actor in Romania. However, because of heavy drinking his acting career ended. He did continue to write poetry and is one of the writers of the 1960's whose work is recognized as a solid landmark of contemporary Romanian literature. He is considered to compare favorably to Lucian Blaga, a Romanian poet and playwright who is much more accessible in English translation.
