Francesca James is an American soap opera actress, producer and director. She began her career by playing a small role on the classic soap opera The Secret Storm. In 1970 she joined the cast of ABC's One Life to Live playing Marcy Wade for a year. In 1972 she joined the cast of the popular All My Children playing Kitty Shea Davis Tyler until the character was killed off in 1977. Kitty had been in love with Lincoln Tyler and these two had been a popular couple. In 1978 she rejoined the cast as Kitty identical twin sister Kelly Cole Tyler. She stayed until 1980, making sporadic appearances in 1981, 1983, 1984, 1986, 1995 and a special appearances in 2005 for the funeral of Phoebe Tyler Wallingford. In 1980 she was awarded a Daytime Emmy for her performance.

In 1981 she started directing All My Children. She continued in this capacity until 1988. She also directed episodes in 2003 and 2004. She directed the All My Children spin-off show Loving in 1989. She also directed episodes of the General Hospital spin-off Port Charles.

She served as producer of General Hospital from 1990-1991, when she jumped ship to producer the popular Santa Barbara for a year. She then produced Days of Our Lives for a year. She returned as supervising producer of General Hospital from 1994-1996. Most recently she served an executive producer of All My Children from 1996-1998. As a producer she won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series in 1998 and was nominated again in 1999.
