Franka Potente (born July 22, 1974 in Dülmen, North Rhine-Westphalia) is a German actress.

The older of two children, her father was a teacher and her mother was a medical assistant. She was a foreign exchange student at age 17 in Texas. Spotted by a casting agent at the age of 19, she studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York. After a notable debut in It's a Jungle Out There and two unconventional movies by Tom Tykwer including the international hit, "Lola Rennt" (Run Lola Run), Potente has starred in several Hollywood movies, most prominently The Bourne Identity
and The Bourne Supremacy
, alongside Matt Damon. She dated US actor Elijah Wood.

Her family name derives from her great-great-grandfather, who was from Sicily.
