Gene Raymond (August 13, 1908 - May 2, 1998) was a popular film actor of the 1930s and 1940s.

Born Raymond Guion in NYC, the former child actor and stage star appeared in Red Dust
(1932) which starred Jean Harlow, Mary Astor and Clark Gable.

In 1937, he married singer and actress Jeanette MacDonald, and they remained married until her death in 1965. The two appeared in their only film together, Smilin' Through
in 1941.

During World War II, Gene Raymond served as a pilot in the Air Force (see).

It should be noted that Raymond was arrested at least three times for gay-related incidents; a photo of his 1938 arrest and booking number is reproduced in Sweethearts (page 498 of the 2001 edition); an army nurse is named and quoted for the second arrest and retired Scotland Yard detective Joe Sampson discussed the third arrest, which occurred in England during WWII, but which evidently did not result in a dishonorable discharge.

Gene Raymond died at the age of 89 of natural causes.
