| Golden Brooks (born 1970 in San Francisco, California) is an American actress. Brooks has been featured in many films and television shows, and has appeared alongside actors such as Queen Latifah and Kevin Bacon. Currently, she plays Maya Wilkes (Joan's sharp-tongued secretary and now acclaimed author) on the UPN sitcom, Girlfriends. Before becoming an actress, Golden Brooks studied literature and sociology at UC Berkeley and earned her Master's degree at Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers, New York.
