Goundamani is a famous Tamil comic film actor. His real name was Mani, he was famous for counter argument in his films and hence he was called as Counter Mani initially. Which later transformed to Goundamani due to slang language used in Tamil.

He normally appears with another actor, called Senthil, in a slapstick double act. Together they have formed a comic pair in many Tamil and Telugu films, analogous to Laurel and Hardy.

Film Career

Goundamani has entertained two generations of Tamil people with his unique style of comedy, acting in hundreds of films in a career which has so far spanned two decades. His most famous routine is the "Vazhapazam" (Banana) joke with Senthil, in the film Karagaatakkaran. Various television channels in South India, such as Sun TV, KTV, Raj TV, Vijay TV, and Jaya TV broadcast his jokes everyday. He is a household name in Tamil Nadu; his jokes cater to every age-group and class of audience.

Some of his memorable movies are with heroic leads such as Sathyaraj or Karthik, and has teamed up with three generations of such actors. In many Tamil films, he accompanies the hero in most of the scenes (sometimes also in the songs). He has acted with Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan , Arjun, Vijay, Ajith, Jeyaram, and Prabhu. In 90's it was the peak of his career, it was considered that a Tamil film would be a box office hit only if he acted in it.

He once suffered from kidney stones and Jaundice. He had the stones removed at the GEM Hospital in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
