| Grant Show is an actor who starred on Melrose Place as Jake Hanson from 1992 to 1997. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 27, 1962. Raised in the Santa Cruz, California area, Show was a graduate of UCLA where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Show broke into show business almost immediately after high school during his time in college and his first major was as "Rick Hyde" on the television series Ryan's Hope from 1984-1987. Show dated a fellow Ryan's Hope actor, the beautiful Yasmine Bleeth. Hyped as the series' leading heartthrob, Show even had a pinup poster issued during the series' run but he was dissatisfied with acting in soaps and went to London to study acting in order to improve his skills. Returning to the states in the late 1980s, he landed occasional prime time acting gigs but feature films proved elusive, although the producers of Thelma and Louise seriously considered him for the role that launched Brad Pitt into film stardom. Show's appearances on television attracted the attention of producer Aaron Spelling who felt he had star potential and decided to cast him as Jake Hanson on a few episodes of the popular series Beverly Hills 90210 in order to spin off the character as the lead in his next series Melrose Place. Debuting with much fanfare (Show was on the covers of both TV Guide and People immediately after the series' debut), the series' ratings in its first season were not up to expectations yet the show evolved in its second season from a fairly straight drama to an over-the-top soap opera serial in the Dynasty tradition. Hyped as a Generation X soap, Melrose was actually a saga for the last of the Baby Boomers and their final grasp on youth. The program also switched from being a program with Show as the unofficial star to an ensemble cast although he remained the most promenient of the male cast though the show created the most water cooler buzz for its female leads, notably Heather Locklear, Marcia Cross, and Laura Leighton, the latter of whom was briefly Show's offscreen love interest. Show, Cross, Leighton, Doug Savant, Courtney Thorne-Smith and Josie Bissett left the cast of the series in 1997 in a mysterious move that rather swiftly lead the show into a major decline. Since the series' end he has starred in a number of television movies, acted in stage productions of several plays including The Glass Menagerie and was the lead in the short-lived Fox Network supernatural drama Point Pleasant in 2005. In 2006, he starred in the ABC Family show Beautiful People. Long a bachelor, Show married plus-sized model Pollyanna MacIntosh, whom he met when they posed together for a Lane Bryant ad in 2003. He is 5'8" or 5'10" tall (depending on the source), and enjoys golf, motorcycling and auto racing. He won the 1996 Toyota Pro/Celebrity (auto) Race, although no pros raced that year, the 20th anniversary of the event.
