Greatest Hits: My Prerogative
is the first greatest hits collection from pop music singer Britney Spears, released on November 9, 2004.

Album information

The set includes most of Spears' hit singles, from "...Baby One More Time" up to "Everytime". Included are three new songs; a cover of Bobby Brown's "My Prerogative" (which was featured as the lead single and has gone on to be an international #1), and two previously unreleased songs entitled "Do Somethin'" (which was later released as a single) and "I've Just Begun (Having My Fun)". The two singles not included on the disc are Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know and From The Bottom of My Broken Heart, both of which are ballads.

Spears released this fifth album sooner rather than later to fulfill her five-album contract with Jive Records. During the 2004 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, she decided to resign with Jive.

The album was beaten to the #1 position in the UK and the US by Eminem's Encore
, which was released in the middle of the week, but he still had enough sales to overtake her album; therefore, Spears had to settle for a #2 debut. This was her first album not to debut at #1 in the US, where it reached #4 there (due to minimum promotion and greatest hits albums by Shania Twain and Toby Keith being released simultaneously taht week in the US), though it has still been able to sell over 1.2 million copies (RIAA platinum certification) domestically. The album ended up in the position #74 in the Billboard 2005 Year in Music from the Billboard 200 list. In Japan by the end of 2005, the album had sold 710,124 units. In Europe, the album had sold 2 millions copies (2x platinum).
