Actors - I Love Rock 'N Roll

"I Love Rock 'N Roll" is the fourth single (in most countries) from Pop singer Britney Spears
released from the album Britney
during the second quarter of 2002, internationally only.

Song information

The song was written by two members of the hit British band The Arrows, Alan Merrill and Jake Hooker, originally recorded by the band on RAK Records in 1975. It was later covered by Joan Jett on Boardwalk Records, a version which hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1982.

Britney has publicly admitted the original song to be one of her favorites. Spears listened to The Arrows' original Mickie Most-produced version just before she recorded the song, according to her Jive A&R man Steve Lunt. Ironically, when promoting the single's release she infamously mistakingly attributed the hit version of the song to Pat Benatar instead of Jett.

The track's theme is self-explanotary and features Spears declaring her new found love for rock and roll and she proclaims "I love rock and roll."

Music video

Directed by Chris Applebaum ("Overprotected
"), the music video for "I Love Rock 'N Roll" features Spears in a tight-fitting leather getup. Straightforward, it has Spears singing with her band for the first half of the video. For the second half, one scene has Britney crawling around on the floor before she smashes the speakers with a guitar. Another scene has Spears rolling around on a motorcycle. At the end of the video, confetti flys down onto Britney and her band.

Chart performance

At this point in her career, "I Love Rock 'N Roll" ended up becoming her biggest commercial failure, as the single failed to make the top ten in most countries. Still, the track was not by any means a flop, as it made at least top forty placement in most regions.

"I Love Rock 'N' Roll" was a moderate success in the U.K., released during the christmas rush it peaked at thirteen and re-entered the chart (Spears' first and only single to do so in the U.K.). The single sold a total of 51,000 copies and is Spears' worst selling single in the U.K. to date.
