| Jean Brooks (December 23, 1915-November 25, 1963) was an American film actor who appeared in over 30 films. She was born Jean Kelly, but changed her name after Broadway dancer Gene Kelly began making films. She changed her last name to her then husbands Richard Brooks name. They later divorced. Appeared in six 1940s "Falcon" mystery movies as well as the horror classic The Leopard Man (1943). She also played devil worshiper beauty in Val Lewton-produced The Seventh Victim (1943). Brooks was born in New York and raised in Costa Rica, thus she could speak English and Spanish fluently. Brooks began her professional career as a singer at New York City's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. She died years after leaving her film career due to extreme malnutrition caused by alcoholism.
