| Jean Servais (born September 12, 1912 in Antwerp, Belgium; died February 17, 1976 in Paris, France) was a Belgian actor trained at the Brussels Conservatory and member of Jean-Louis Barrault's theatre company, he acted in numerous French films and became internationally famous for playing the melancholy gangster lead in Rififi (1955), directed by Jules Dassin (called by Francois Truffaut the best film noir he had ever seen). He had gone through hard times because of alcoholism and would experience the height of his career only late in life, in the 1950s and 60s.
