Jenna Elfman (born September 30, 1971) is an American television and film actress.Television and FilmographyShe is best known for her role on the TV sitcom Dharma & Greg, which ran for five years on ABC from 1997 to 2002. She won a Golden Globe Award for her role as Dharma.In November 2005, CBS announced that Courting Alex will be a midseason replacement, premiering in January 2006. She also starred in the movies Krippendorf's Tribe, Edtv, Looney Tunes: Back in Action, and Keeping the Faith. Personal lifeShe was born Jennifer Mary Butala in Los Angeles, California, to Sue Grace (a housewife) and Richard Wayne Butala, a Hughes Aircraft executive, of Croatian descent. Jenna attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts as a dance major and graduated in 1989. Her uncle is Tony Butala of The Lettermen. She studied with acting teacher Milton Katselas at the Beverly Hills Playhouse before beginning her television career.ScientologyIn 1991 Jenna converted to Scientology, which she had been introduced to by Bodhi Elfman. She married him in 1995, making noted composer Danny Elfman her uncle-in-law.In 1999, the Daily Radar reported that she had refused to participate in a charity for AIDS research, reasoning "AIDS is a state of mind, not a disease." She has been an enthusiastic supporter of the Church, telling Scientology magazine Celebrity (February 2005) that she's "out to help her fellow Scientologists 'clear the planet' of aliens." (A fundamental tenet of Scientology is that dead alien souls known as Body Thetans placed here by an alien named Xenu are the cause of mankind's problems.) In 2005 Jenna appeared at the Church of Scientology's controversial "Psychiatry: An Industry of Death" Museum, which puts forth a conspiracy theory connecting Adolf Hitler to the psychiatric profession. In February 2006, Elfman appeared in a Scientology music video called "United". Fox News reporter Roger Friedman reported receiving a copy in the mail sent personally from Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, along with a framed set of Scientology maxims such as "Never fear to hurt another in a just cause". Friedman said that on the video Elfman and other celebrities such as Catherine Bell and Isaac Hayes were "all sort of nodding in a trance and clapping."
