The Kapoor Family is an influential film dynasty in India's Bollywood cinema.

Background

Five generations of the Kapoor family have acted, directed or produced in the Bollywood industry, starting from Dewan Basheswarnath Kapoor right down to Kareena Kapoor.

It was founded by iconic actor Prithviraj Kapoor, whose legendary son Raj Kapoor became a global superstar, as did his two other sons (Shashi Kapoor) and (Shammi Kapoor) who became stars in their own right.

Most members of the family have either acted, produced or directed in films and have had a major impact on Indian films.

Though all three of Prithviraj Kapoor's sons became actors, it is Raj Kapoor's descendents that have carried on the family legacy. His Daughters, Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor went on to become great acteress finding success, although Karisma Kapoor has temporarily retired due to marriage.

Rishi Kapoor's son, Ranbir Kapoor is going to make his debut under director Sanjay Leela Bhansali opposite Sonam Kapoor, the daughter of Anil Kapoor.

Raj Kapoor's grandson Nikhil Nanda is married to Shweta Nanda, the only daughter of megastar Amitabh Bachchan (see Bachchan Family
