Katherine Shindle (b. January 31, 1977 in Evanston, Illinois) is an American actress, singer, dancer, and AIDS activist. She is now credited as Kate Shindle. She came to fame as Miss America 1998, where she represented the state of Illinois. She was attending Northwestern University at the time. She graduated in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in theatre.

Controversy

Shindle's father served on the Illinois pagent's board of directors when she won the pagent. He was on a leave of absence during the time of the pagent, but many still question the legitimacy of her win.

Took a job as a waitress in 1999 in New York as a temporary job between acting gigs.

In 1999, Kate's first CD, Christimases to Come was released on SSP Records. The CD featured Chicago jazz ensemble, Skip Sams' Society Sound, and was used to promote AIDS awareness and raised money for the National AIDS Fund.
