As an actor he appeared in the film version of The Lion in Winter and had roles in Adam Adamant Lives! and as the eponymous villain in the Doctor Who story The Dominators. In later years he has focused on directing, with credits for a production of The Birthday Party as well as episodes of Poldark and Secret Army.
