Kenny D. Layne (born July 22, 1981 in Orlando, Florida) is an American professional wrestler, better known by his ring name, Kenny King. He was a contestant in the second series of WWF Tough Enough, and currently wrestles for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.

Career

Layne was one of the contestants on the World Wrestling Federation reality television program Tough Enough II, wherein thirteen would-be wrestlers trained under WWF employees Al Snow, Ivory, Tazz, Hardcore Holly, Chavo Guerrero, Jr. and John Gaburick for fourteen weeks. The trainers would select two winners by a process of elimination, and the winner would receive a WWF developmental contract. Layne joined the series at the outset in February 2002. While on the series, he was known for his friendship with fellow contestant Pete, his convincing bumps and his penchant for drinking and "partying". Layne was one of the four finalists of Tough Enough 2, which was won by Jackie Gayda and Linda Miles.

Despite failing to win a WWF contract, Layne began wrestling on the independent circuit immediately following Tough Enough. He wrestled in Las Vegas, Nevada in June 2002, then relocated to Florida in July 2002. He returned to Las Vegas in September 2002, and trained under Nick Bockwinkel and Scott Casey at the Las Vegas Wrestling Academy. In addition to wrestling under his own name, he also occasionally used the ring names Tough Enough Kenny and Kenny King (with the latter pseudonym a reference to a nickname bestowed upon Layne by fellow Tough Enough contestant Linda Miles, "King Kenny of Africa", after Layne slept with an African woman during a Tough Enough excursion to South Africa).

Layne appeared with Ultimate Pro Wrestling in Anaheim, California on April 25, 2003. He defeated former The Real World cast member (and future Tough Enough contestant) Mike Mizanin in what was promoted as a "reality television match" after one of his trainers, Chavo Guerrero, Jr., interfered on his behalf.

On July 22, 2003, Layne appeared in the television program The Strip as "Felix" in the episode "Father's Day Blues".

In mid-2003 and early 2004 King worked for Revolution Pro Wrestling in Industry, California. Between 2003 and 2005 he worked for the Alternative Wrestling Show promotion in California as "The Natural" Kenny King.

Layne debuted in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling on the December 3, 2005 episode of TNA iMPACT!, losing to Abyss in a short squash match. He returned to TNA on the December 24 episode of iMPACT!, losing this time to Ron Killings. On the December 31 (New Year's Eve) episode of iMPACT!, Layne teamed with Shark Boy and lost to Jeff Jarrett and Monty Brown.
