Actors - Love Will Save the Day

"Love Will Save the Day" was the fifth and final single released from Whitney Houston
's sophomore album Whitney
. The single was released in July 1988.

"Love Will Save the Day" is the fastest song on the album "Whitney". Produced by Jellybean Benitez (famous for working and songwriting with Madonna
), the song has Houston singing at a fast pace. However, she had a pattern of scoring number ones by having a ballad single, then a dance number, another ballad, etc. The hope was that she could continue her record-breaking string of number ones with "Love Will Save the Day."

Chart information

At this time, Whitney Houston had achieved a record-breaking string of seven number-one hits over the course of three years. There was enormous pressure to keep her record going, however "Love Will Save the Day" failed to become Houston's eighth consecutive number one, peaking at number nine. The song failed to reach the top position on either the Billboard Hot 100 Single Sales or Hot 100 Airplay; it was her first single not to top either chart since 1985's "You Give Good Love". The number nine peak of "Love Will Save the Day" was Houston's lowest solo peak up to this time. However, the album "Whitney" had been released for over a year by this point, and domestic sales were already past six million, which explains the low sales peak.

The song remained in the top forty for only eleven weeks, the shortest time for one of Houston's singles. On other Billboard charts, the song was not as popular as expected, only reaching fifth place on the R&B Chart, and tenth on the Adult Contemporary Charts, Houston's weakest showings ever. The song, however, did reach number one on the Hot Club/Dance Play Tracks.

Internationally, the song did less than well, making the top ten only in the United Kingdom, but eighteen in Switzerland, twenty-eight in Germany, and completely flopping in Australia, not making even the top seventy-five (number seventy-seven), but is considered a bigger global hit than "Where Do Broken Hearts Go".

Charts

"Love Will Save the Day" remained in the Billboard Hot 100 for thirteen weeks. It was Houston's third number-one single on the Billboard Hot Club/Dance Play Charts
