Maria Tortuga (AKA Irene Best, Maria Maines, Maria Torres, Mary Christian, Marie Tortuga) is an American porn star and bondage model born in 1960. A slim hispanic model, Tortuga is generally considered one of the first porn stars in the modern sense. Beginning in 1978, she began performing in shorts for film loops. It was later that she starred in some of the first feature length stag films.

In the 1980s, she began working in the resurgent bondage industry, most notably with photographer Sean Harper. Most sources say Tortuga left the adult industry in 1986, but she was featured in Harmony's magazine's BONDAGE PHOTO TREASURES #28 and BONDAGE GALLERY #13 as late as 1990. This can be attributed to a common belief that bondage work isn't actually pornographic, but is closer to glamor modelling.
