Matsumoto Koshiro IX is a kabuki actor in Japan. The ninth in the Matsumoto Koshiro line, he is the first son of Matsumoto Koshiro VIII. Born in Tokyo on August 19, 1942, he made his debut in 1945 under the name Matsumoto Kintaro. In 1949 he took the name Ichikawa Somegoro, and in 1981 succeeded his father under his present name. His roles have included Benkei in the play Kanjincho.

A versatile actor, Koshiro IX has also appeared in Western stage plays and television. In 1970, he appeared in the lead role in Man of La Mancha
on Broadway in New York. Also, he has appeared as the King of Siam in The King and I
in the West End in London. Other stage roles have included Mottel in Fiddler on the Roof
, the title role in Sweeney Todd, Salieri in Amadeus
, Kitagawa Utamaro in the musical Utamaro, and Zeami Motokiyo in Musical Zeami. Film credits include Nichiren (1978) as Hojo Tokiyori, while television appearances include both jidaigeki and modern settings.

Matsumoto Koshiro IX has a son, Ichikawa Somegoro VII, and a daughter, actress Matsu Takako. His younger brother is kabuki actor Nakamura Kichiemon II, who is also active in other media. Koshiro is a graduate of Waseda University. ja:松本幸四郎 (9代目)
