Matthew Richard Stone (born May 26, 1971) is an American animator, film director, screenwriter, actor and voice actor. He is one of the co-creators of the animated television series South Park.

Stone was born in Houston, Texas to Gerald Whitney Stone (of Irish Catholic descent) and Sheila Lois Belasco (who was a non-practicing Jew). He was raised in the Denver suburb of Littleton, Colorado, though contrary to popular belief, he did not attend Columbine High School but rather Heritage High School, a cross-town rival of Columbine's. He holds degrees in film and mathematics from the University of Colorado at Boulder. In 1997, Comedy Central debuted South Park, which he and Trey Parker created.

On South Park, he is the basis for the fictional character Kyle Broflovski, from the character's appearance to his parents (though the latter is supposed to be very loosely).

In 2002, Stone was interviewed in the 2002 Michael Moore documentary, Bowling for Columbine
, where he mostly discusses his experiences growing up in Littleton, Colorado and the culture to succeed he felt drove situations such as the Columbine High School massacre. In the film, there is a short animated segment about the history of guns, done in what has been described as a "South Park-esque" manner. Stone expressed anger over what he saw as a misleading attempt by Moore to insinuate that the South Park creators had a hand in the making of the film, when in fact both Stone and Parker own guns, as do their families. Subsequently, Michael Moore is portrayed in the film Team America: World Police
as a suicide bomber and described as an "annoying blowhard" and a "giant socialist weasel." However, Stone later stated that he does not "really hate the guy."

Stone is also a member of the band DVDA with Trey Parker.
