| Mercedes Scelba-Shorte (born 24th August, 1981, Valenca, CA), also known as Mercedes Yvette, is an actress and model. She was a contestant on the 2nd season of America's Next Top Model. Scelba-Shorte was studying for a degree in communications at CSU before auditioning for America's Next Top Model. She was accepted, and was eventually chosen as one of the 12 finalists (Cycle 2, 2004). During the run of the show, she was constantly told by the judges that her look was "too commercial". However, she managed to make it as one of the two finalists of the competition, though in the end it was Yoanna House who was chosen as the winner. Many fans have claimed that Scelba-Shorte deserved to win, stating that she is a more versatile model than House. Before Top ModelScelba-Shorte was born to a Caucasian mother and an African American father, but has a Chinese step-father, often leading people to believe she is of Filipino descent. Scelba-Shorte was born in New Jersey but her mother, Mary Scelba, moved her to California at a young age.Modeling/Acting CareerAfter the show, she signed with NOUS Models and has also landed small roles in a number of TV shows including One on One, All of Us and The Bold and the Beautiful as well as appearing a number of times on The Tyra Banks Show. Recently she has attracted some attention by suppposedly scoring the role of M in Brett Ratner's upcoming X-Men 3 however she confirmed that the rumour was false on her online blog.She continues to do modelling and has done a commercial for Sears Department Store. Mercedes has done a commercial with Yoanna House for Chevy Equinox. She has appeared on the covers of Arthritis Today Magazine (October 2004), Wedding Dresses Magazine (Spring/Summer 2005), and Wedding Dresses Magazine (Mercedes Exclusive Issue), and Mervns Catalogue. Mercedes has modeled for Kohl's Catalogue, Wedding Dresses Magazine, Arthritis Today Magazine, Elle Girl Magazine for Samsung phone, Sears, YM Magazine, and Mervyns.
