Actors - Mildred Davis

Mildred 'Mid' Davis (January 1, 1900 - August 18, 1969) was an American actress who appeared in many of Harold Lloyd's
classic silent comedies.

Early Life and Career

Born in Philadelphia, PA, and educated at the "Friends School" there. Davis had blonde hair and blue eyes and a charming screen persona. She was petite, at just 5'2" tall, weighing 100 lbs and had blonde hair and blue eyes.

On February 23, 1923 she married actor Harold Lloyd
, with whom she had starred in many films already. After their marriage Harold (possibly fearly of becoming a shadow to his wife's career) announced that Davis would not appear in any more pictures. After much persuasion on Mildred's part she received Harold's consent for her return to the screen. By this time, however, her momentum was lost, and her career never regained the notoriety it possibly could have.

Personal Life

Her brother was actor Jack Davis
of Our Gang fame. She and Harold Lloyd
had 3 children including Harold Lloyd, Jr.. She suffered, in later life, with bouts of alcoholism and depression, possibly due to her unhappy marriage to Lloyd. She took comfort in her friendships with actresses Marion Davies
and Colleen Moore
. She also developed a long lasting friendship (and possible relationship, although that has never been confirmed) with Lloyd's assistant, Roy Brooks.

Davis died from a coronary in California in 1969. She is the grandmother of Suzanne Lloyd Hayes.
