Actors - Miroslava Stern

Miroslava Stern (born Miroslava Šternová, on February 26 1926 in Prague, Czechoslovakia , and died March 10, 1955 in Mexico City) was a Mexican actress.

Biography

Born in Czechoslovakia, Miroslava Stern moved to Mexico as a child with her adoptive parents in the late 1930s; seeking to escape war in their native country. After winning a national beauty contest, Miroslava began to study acting. She participated in various Mexican films and also spent some time in Hollywood, but unfortunately, she hardly found roles other than those of mysterious women or foreign beauties due to her native accent.

After returning to Mexico she obtained more roles in films. After a standard career, she was offered a role in which would become her last and most remembered film: Ensayo de un Crimen ("Rehearsal for a Crime") in 1955, directed by Luis Buñuel. Soon after the final wrap of the film, Miroslava commited suicide (apparently because of a love deception). In a macabre coincidence, at the premiere of the film, a wax statue of herself was incineraded, and coincided with her own cremation in a Mexican graveyard. Her tragic life inspired a short story in 1990, and also a Mexican film
called Miroslava in 1993.
