| "Outrageous" is the fourth and final single from Pop singer Britney Spears released from the album In the Zone during the second quarter of 2004. "Outrageous" was both written and produced by R&B artist R. Kelly, who also offers vocals to the track. The song consolidates the image Spears has made for herself as she says she is simply "outrageous" in every conceivable way. Music videoThe single was supposed to be coupled with a music video directed by previous Spears collaborator Dave Meyers ("Lucky," "Boys"); however, Spears sustained a knee injury during a dance routine and could not complete it. Clips of the video, which feature a cameo appearance by Snoop Dogg, can be found on her Greatest Hits: My Prerogative DVD.Shot in Queens, New York, the supposed-to-be music video that was included in the DVD starts in the middle of the song where Snoop Dogg was seen playing basketball with a group of people. Suddenly, Britney interrups and ruins the game. She proceeds to flirt with Snoop and then licks his beard during the line "until I vow to keep it forever." In the next scene, she and her dancers perform in a wet street, which is where she supposedly injured her knee. TracklistOutrageous #. Outrageous #. Outrageous #. Outrageous #. Toxic #. Toxic #. Everytime #. EverytimeChart performance"Outrageous" ended up performing rather weakly on the charts due to the fact that the video for the song was never released. The single peaked at only number seventy-nine on the Billboard Hot 100; still, it is somewhat of a notable feat seeing as the song didn't chart on either of the component charts (the Hot 100 Singles Sales or Hot 100 Airplay). This is similar to the situation of one of Spears' previous singles, 2002's "Overprotected." It also ranked considerably lower on both Dance and Top 40 radio than her singles generally do. Still, the song wasn't nearly as big a flop as some of her previous singles from the Britney album.Interestingly enough, "Outrageous" received a quite a bit of airplay in late 2003 and early 2004, around the time "Toxic" was commanding radio attention. Although it had no impact on the latter's performance, the fact that an unpromoted track from the album was on the airwaves in near-heavy rotation had a few people convinced that "Outrageous" was the actual new single by Britney Spears.
