Ovidie is a French pornographic actress born in 1980.OverviewOvidie studied philosophy at college. She denies entering the porn industry for either sex or money. Describing herself as middle class, happily married, she represents a (publically) emerging sophistication among industry workers. Her involvement in dance and choreography, and her interest in expression of the human body, eventually would play a part in attracting her to the industry. At the time Ovidie became a porn actres, she was a militant feminist. She first viewed pornography to get a personal sense of the injustice that was being perpetrated on female industry workers. She found herself surprised when female porn stars, who she once felt sorry for, impressed her with their powerful sexual images. Wanting to attain this same kind of sexual strength, which seemed compatible with feminist ideals, she began acting in pornographic films. Her bold declaration, that she came to view feminism and pornography as not wholly incompatible, exhibits an increasingly common opinion, that female porn actors are not exploited prostitutes, but rather business women striving to represent female sexuality in film. By acting in pornography, women are able to take control of how female sexuality is expressed, creating an equal power base at the executive level of the industry. Despite obvious overtones of Bohemianism in her lifestyle, Ovidie is not openly critical of her bourgeois origins. She presents as a sort of hero for common people, while at the same time her intellectual depth attracts more erudite audiences. Her career is representative of efforts to present an image of the porn worker as informed, rational, and capable of managing their own lives successfully. She has helped legitimatise pornography, and at the same time has assisted in bridging the gap between pornography and mainstream film. Ovidie herself has become representative of a new expression of pornography which makes the mind and the human experience as sexually attractive as intercourse. She decided to quit her acting career at the end of 2003, although she still directs adult movies. In 2002 she published her first book: Porno Manifesto. MusicOvidie has also been active in musical circles, organizing underground concerts within France for martial musicians such as Dernière Volonté and others.Titles and awardsDuring five years in the porn business, she appeared in more than 60 movies and received 7 awards:
