Robert Hegyes (born 7 May, 1951) in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. His father is a Hungarian American, and his mother is an Italian American. He is the cousin of Jon Bon Jovi. Always interested in acting, Robert was active in high school dramatics. He majored in speech and theater at Glassboro State College in New Jersey. When he received his B.A. degree, he lost no time crossing the river from New Jersey to New York City to have a go at professional acting. He got a job acting with the children's theater company called Theater in a Trunk. This was a troupe of professional actors who peformed plays in schools and playgrounds all around New York City. Robert Hegyes landed a role in an unsuccessful off-Broadway play called "Naomi Courts". This appearance, however, led to a role in a Broadway play, "Don't Call Back", starring television and stage actress Arlene Francis. Soon after "Don't Call Back" closed, Robert managed to land a memorable cameo role in the Al Pacino film, "Dog Day Afternoon". His most well-known role was in the television series "Welcome Back, Kotter" (1975-1979) as Juan Epstein.
