Soleil Moon Frye (born August 6, 1976 in Glendora, California) is an actress and director.

Her father is Virgil Frye, and her mother is Sondra Peluce Londy. Her stepfather is Floyd Peluce. She has two half-brothers Sean Frye and Meeno Peluce. She has the honor of being one of the youngest directors in Hollywood history, directing Wild Horses while only twenty-two years old.

Early career

Frye first found popularity at age eight, when she starred as Punky Brewster, the title character of a television sitcom. The show aired on NBC and in syndication for many years during the 1980s. Later billed a child star, Soleil soon was viewed by the public eye less for her accomplishments in television and film and more for spectacular tabloid headlines.

Surgery

During her teenage years, stories surrounded a romance with Edward Furlong and, more notably, a well-publicized breast reduction surgery.

At fifteen, Soleil went "under the knife" to reduce back pain caused by growing very large breasts for her age (Frye participated in a cover story for People Magazine, discussing her health problems caused by the condition.). After the true reason for the surgery was publicized, many rumors died away.

Filmography

During her late teens and early adult years, Frye made appearances in several low-budget and independent films. She began to acquire a reputation for being very difficult to work with. In particular, on the set of the film The Saint Tammany Miracle, Frye purportedly showed up late on multiple occasions, got into arguments with other actors, and at one point came in to work with a hangover.

Television

Frye appeared in Sabrina the Teenage Witch as the coarse but sweet Roxy for the final three years of the show's run (2000 - 2003). The show starred Melissa Joan Hart, who had auditioned for the part of Punky Brewster years before. Frye once auditioned for the series Charmed, a drama about a trio of witch sisters.

In 2001, she debuted on the Disney Channel show The Proud Family as a voice talent.

She is currently voicing the character of Jade in the Bratz animated series.

Popular myths

(She attended New School University in New York for one year only.) #As a young teenager, Soleil's breasts grew "out of proportion," leading many to think that she had gotten breast augmentation surgery. (Without a further discussion on body proportions, all augmentation was due to puberty.) #The reduction mammaplasty was performed due to a life-threatening breast disease that threatened to harm her heart. (There is no public record or statement of Soleil's cardiac condition being threatened in any manner, nor was her condition terminal.) #Her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, and early stages of the cancer were detected as puberty began. (Her mother did not have cancer.)

Trivia

Soleil married Jason Goldberg, a television producer and actor, on October 25, 1998 in Los Angeles. Their first child daughter Poet Sienna Rose Goldberg was born on August 24, 2005 in Los Angeles.

"Soleil" is French for the sun, which makes for a humorous connection with the moon in her first name. It is a reference to the Broadway standard "I've got the sun in the morning and the moon at night."

Her best girlfriend is actress and former co-star/producer Melissa Joan Hart.
