Stephanie J. Block is an American stage actor. She is a member of the Los Angeles Musical Theater Guild. Ms. Block debuted on Broadway in 2003, playing the role of Liza Minnelli alongside Hugh Jackman in the acclaimed musical The Boy from Oz. Before that, she served as the understudy for Idina Menzel as Elphaba and was part of the ensemble in Wicked
, while the show was in its pre-Broadway tryout at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco. Unknown by most, she was actually the original choice for the part and worked with Stephen Schwartz while the musical was still in early development, before Ms. Menzel became involved. In spring of 2005, Ms. Block originated the role of Elphaba in the first national tour of Wicked and completed her run on March 5, 2006, after which she was replaced by Julia Murney.

Her other regional stage credits include Funny Girl
, Crazy for You, Oliver!
, James Joyce's The Dead, The Grass Harp, Bells Are Ringing (Reprise!) and I Love a Piano. Ms. Block was the original Belle in the Disneyland production of Beauty and the Beast. She has done voice work for numerous commercial jingles, including the singing voice of Barbie.

Ms. Block is currently working on the new Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil musical The Pirate Queen, in which she will star in the title role of Grania (also known as Grace O'Malley).
