Sushmita Sen (born November 19, 1975 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India) is a well-known Bollywood
actress and was India's first Miss Universe in 1994.

Personal

Sushmita's father is a former Indian air force officer; her mother worked as a fashion artist. She has a daughter, Renee, whom she adopted in 2001.

Early Life

Sushmita's mother tongue is Bengali. She was born in Andra Pradesh, but grew up in Delhi, where she studied English and planned a career in journalism.

Career

In 1994 at the age of eighteen, Sushmita won the title of Miss India (narrowly beating out Aishwarya Rai
). Later that year, she became the first Indian Miss Universe in the Miss Universe Pageant held in the Phillipines. She then started working as an actress.

Her first movie, Dastak in 1996, where she played the victim of a stalker, didn't do well at the cinema, but her appearance as Rupali in David Dhawan's movie Biwi No. 1 won her the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award in 1999. So far, her biggest hit has been the 2004 movie Main Hoon Na
