The Fortune Cookie is a 1967 film with Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon. The film was directed by Billy Wilder. The first collaboration of the successful team of Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon before they made The Odd Couple
. Ron Rich appears as Luther 'Boom Boom' Jackson and Judi West as Sandy Hinkle.

Plot

A cameraman gets injured by a football player while covering a Browns game in Cleveland, Ohio and goes to the hospital. There, his cunning brother in law (who happens to be a lawyer) convinces him to pretend that his legs have been paralyzed. This way, they can receive a huge indemnity from the insurance company. Of course, the insurance company's men suspect that the paralysis is a fake one, and so a big "game" begins.

Awards

Walter Matthau won the Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in this film. And the movie was also nominated for Art Direction-Set Decoration (Black-and-White), Best Cinematography (Black-and-White) & Best Writing, Story and Screenplay at the Oscars. Walter Matthau was also nominated a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Actor - Musical/Comedy.
