| The Letter is a 1929 talkie film which tells the story of a woman who commits murder and tries to convince the court at her trial that she is innocent. It stars Jeanne Eagels, O.P. Heggie, Reginald Owen and Herbert Marshall. The movie was adapted by Monta Bell, Mort Blumenstock, Jean de Limur and Garrett Fort from the play by W. Somerset Maugham. It was directed by de Limur. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress (Jeanne Eagels).
