| Timothy Daly (born March 1, 1956, in New York) is an American screen and voice actor and producer. He is perhaps best known for his potrayal of Joe Hackett in the NBC comedy series Wings (1990-1997) He is the son of actor James Daly and younger brother of actress Tyne Daly (10 years his senior), who is best known for her role as Mary Beth Lacey on the TV series Cagney and Lacey. There was a rumour that his grandfather was former Chief Justice of the United States and Governor of California, Earl Warren, but Tim Daly has stated in interviews that this rumour is false. Daly began his professional career while a student at Vermont's Bennington College, where he studied theater and literature and acted in summer stock. His first leading film role was in the now classic film, Diner, directed by Barry Levinson, which also launched the careers of some of today's most respected actors. Starring roles soon followed in Alan Rudolph's feature, Made in Heaven, the American Playhouse production of The Rise & Rise of Daniel Rocket, and the CBS dramatic series, Almost Grown. In legitimate theater, he has starred in the Broadway production of Coastal Disturbances by playwright Tina Howe, Oliver, Oliver at the Manhattan Theatre Club, Mass Appeal by Bill C. Davis and Bus Stop by William Inge at Trinity Square Repertory, The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams (at the Santa Fe Festival Theatre'), A Knife in the Heart and A Study in Scarlet (at the Williamstown Playhouse) and Paris Bound (at the Berkshire Theatre Festival). He and wife, actress Amy Van Nostrand (who have 2 children), both won DramaLogue Awards for Best Actress and Best Actor in the Coast Playhouse's The Colorado Catechism by Vincent J. Cardinal in Los Angeles. He is well known for his role as strait-laced older brother, Joe Hackett, on long running NBC sitcom Wings. Ironically, he beat Kevin Conroy for the part, who went on to famously star as the voice of Batman in Batman: The Animated Series (a role he continues to play in the Justice League animated series). He is also known as the voice of Superman in Superman: The Animated Series. Coincidentally, both Daly and Conroy have worked with each other in a couple of crossover episodes. Daly was unable to return as Superman in Justice League (the role then went to actor George Newbern), as Daly was already under contract to star in a remake of the 1960s classic TV drama The Fugitive, a remake that aired for only one season (2000-2001). He also appeared on the midseason ABC crime series Eyes, which got good reviews but was canceled after only 5 episodes. Daly has also made two appearances on The Sopranos as an old friend of Christopher Moltisanti, Jt. Dolan, a struggling screen writer conflicted with gambling and drug issues.
