Utpal Dutt (Bangla: উত্পল দত্ত) (March 29, 1929, Barisal in the then Undivided Bengal (now in Bangladesh)- August 19, 1993, Calcutta, India) was an Indian actor, director and writer. He studied English literature at the St. Xavier's College, affiliated to the University of Calcutta.

He was active primarily in Bengali theatre, but did tour several times with the Shakespearean International Theatre Company. Dutt staged what he called "Epic Theatre" (a term he borrowed from Bertolt Brecht) to bring about discussion and change in Bangladesh. Utpal Dutt was also a very good comedian and his style of comedy is unparalled. He acted in the comedy movies Golmaal and Shaukeen. He was also a lifelong Marxist and an active supporter of the Communist Party . He staged many street theatres in favour of the Communist Party. He was also jailed for his views.
