Uttam Mohanty is one of the most popular oriya movie stars in the state of Orissa in India. He had dominated the oriya film industry thoroughtout the 80's and 90's. His native town is in Baripada in the tribal district of Mayurbhanj. He married fellow Oriya film actress Aparajita Khan, later known as Aparajita Mohanty. The couple have a very cute son named Tanmay Mohanty, who is a very good classical singer at the age of 10.

Uttam Mohanty first explored the fledgling Oriya filmdom while living with his elder brother Late Arun Ku. Mohanty in Calcutta. He signed for the first oriya movie while he had enrolled for chartered accountancy course in Calcutta. Later, his film had a big hit and then Uttam opted seriously for being an actor.

He has received lots of awards and prizes for his acting. Having taken to drinking, Mohanty now spends most of his time doing hic hic hurray. If he finds time from his bottle, then he works for Oriya tele-serials.
