| V. Shantaram, renowned Indian filmmaker, was born Rajaram Vankudre, in the then princely state of Kolhapur, on November 18, 1901. He married twice; his second marriage was to the actress Jayashree, who bore him two children: the actress Rajashee (heroine of Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje, Do aankhen barah haath, etc) and a son, Kiran Kumar, sometime sheriff of Bombay. The highest accolade of the Indian film industry, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, was conferred on Shantaram in 1985. He died on October 30, 1990. [ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for V.
